««« See this photo? This is where we live. Mission Viejo, CA. Looks lovely doesn’t it? Well it really is. Low crime, great weather, lots of stuff to do. Except if you want to eat.
Don’t get us wrong, there are plenty of restaurants who will take your money, but other than the usual chain restaurants, our culinary landscape is pretty bleak. After living in this city since 1992, we still have to drive at least 10 miles to find a place we would call a “Mom & Pop Operation.” A place with character. A place to get a big, fat, greasy whatever or a salad, all under the same roof. A place where everyone really does know your name.
We knew that dining out in this town sucked, but we didn’t know it sucked this bad! Our original premise for this website was to find “little gems” in Mission Viejo and pass on that info. Sorry to be the one to say this but they don’t exist. As we began searching online and in phonebooks, things were even worse than we had imagined. Mission Viejo is a planned community. Only problem is they didn’t plan on residents wanting to eat at cool restaurants, pubs and grills.
So after Week #1, we’ve changed things up a little. We’re heading north, south, east and west of here. Our only criteria is that it must be no more than 10 miles door to door. Do these places exist? We don’t know, but we hope so.
If by chance, you know of an interesting place, please let us know. We’d love to be proven wrong.
